Where the marks actually are

AP Comparative Government unit weights, and what that means for your plan.

Units 1 and 2 are 40 to 60% of the multiple-choice section between them, and together they are close to half of College Board's own suggested class time. Unit 5 comes last in the syllabus and is worth more than Unit 3 or Unit 4, so the end of the course is not the light part of the paper.

Unit 1: Political systems, regimes and governments
18-27%
Unit 2: Political institutions
22-33%
Unit 3: Political culture and participation
11-18%
Unit 4: Party and electoral systems and citizen organisations
13-18%
Unit 5: Political and economic changes and development
16-24%
Heaviest units. Where a fixed hour returns the most marks. Published unit weight, as a share of the multiple-choice section.

Syllabus order is not exam order, so Sia weights your study days by what each unit is worth rather than by when it is taught. College Board publishes these weights against the multiple-choice section rather than against the whole exam score, and that section is 50% of the total. College Board publishes unit weights as ranges, so they do not sum to 100%. Weights are taken from the published Course and Exam Description and can change between years. How the AP Comp Gov agent works

From unknown starting point to a plan you can follow.

Three steps turn your current standing, your target and one fixed exam date into a plan that changes as you improve. It takes about three minutes and it is free.

AP Comp Gov prep in AskSia, step 1: diagnose which units are actually at risk
Step 1

Diagnose which units are actually at risk

Take a short diagnostic. Sia returns an AP score range and shows which of the 5 units are losing you marks, rather than which ones feel hard.

AP Comp Gov prep in AskSia, step 2: build backwards from 14 may 2027
Step 2

Build backwards from 14 May 2027

Choose your target score. Sia assigns every study day between now and exam day, weighted by published unit exam weights rather than by syllabus order.

AP Comp Gov prep in AskSia, step 3: practise, get marked, and re-plan
Step 3

Practise, get marked, and re-plan

Work exam-format multiple choice and free response. Every miss produces coaching on the specific trap or the specific rubric point, then tomorrow's plan changes around it.

The loop runs after every session
  • Sia measures which skills and traps cost you points.
  • Your live score forecast moves with the evidence.
  • The next study block is rewritten around what changed.
Six countries

The whole syllabus is six countries you are told in advance.

China, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia and the United Kingdom are the entire comparative field, and Section II is four fixed tasks in 90 minutes: concept application, quantitative analysis, comparative analysis and an argument essay. Nothing on the paper asks about a country outside those six, and an example from one that is not on the list earns nothing however good the politics.

The six countries are drilled as a matrix, not as six essays

Almost every question wants the same institution in two different regimes. Sia revises across countries, so that when a prompt says "two course countries" you already have a pair rather than picking one under pressure.

Four free-response types, each with its own rubric

Concept application, quantitative analysis, comparative analysis and the argument essay are four different tasks. The plan rotates them rather than practising whichever one appeared last year.

Quantitative analysis needs no extra content

Reading a chart and tying it to a course concept is marks available without knowing more politics. Those get drilled early.

Marking follows the published rubric structure. It is AskSia's, not College Board's, and is a study aid rather than an official score.
A worked question

What a marked answer actually looks like.

One question in the AP Comparative Government free-response format, worked through the way the rubric reads it, with the point that goes missing flagged at each step.

Free response, comparative analysis

How long a chief executive may stay in office is settled in different places in different systems. In some of the six AP Comparative Government and Politics course countries the constitution answers it with a hard cap on the person. In others there is no cap on the office at all, and the answer comes from the governing party and the legislature.

Compare how the rules on executive tenure affect the transfer of executive power in two different AP Comparative Government and Politics course countries. (A) Define an executive term limit. (B) Describe the rule that sets how long the chief executive may remain in office in two different course countries. (C) Explain how that rule affects the transfer of executive power in each of the two course countries described in (B).

Unit 2: Political institutions. Written by AskSia in the published free-response format. This is not a College Board question, and AskSia does not reproduce official questions or past papers.

1Part A, define
An executive term limit is a constitutional rule that caps how long, or how many times, one person may hold the office of chief executive, whatever level of electoral or party support that person still commands.
Where the point goes. Part A is one point for the concept, and the concept is the restriction, not the length of service. “A term limit is how long a leader stays in office” defines a term of office and leaves out the cap, which is the only idea in the sentence the marker is looking for.
2Part B, describe
Mexico restricts its elected president to a single six-year term and bars that person from ever holding the office again, so no Mexican president can return. The United Kingdom sets no limit on the office of prime minister at all. A prime minister holds office while leading the party or coalition with the largest number of seats in the House of Commons, and a general election must be held at least every five years.
Where the point goes. Part B is two points with a maximum of one point per country, and only the six course countries are eligible. A second paragraph on Mexico cannot buy the second point, and a rule from the United States or France earns nothing here however accurately it is described.
3Part C, first point
In Mexico the date of the handover is fixed by the rule, not by the incumbent. Re-election is closed off, so a sitting president has no campaign to run and no lawful route back, and executive power passes to a different person on a known date every six years. The contest is over who succeeds, not over whether the incumbent will go.
Where the point goes. This point is paid for the causal step, not for the result. “So power changes hands” restates part B in different words and gives the marker nothing new. The point lands on the clause that names what forces the change, which here is the bar on ever returning to the office.
4Part C, second point
In the United Kingdom that work is done by the governing party and the Commons rather than by a clock. A prime minister leaves when the party chooses a new leader or when the government loses its majority, so executive power can change hands between general elections, and one party can hold office continuously while several prime ministers pass through it. Having no term limit does not fix the executive in place. It moves the trigger for the transfer from a fixed date to a political test that can be applied at any time.
Where the point goes. The second point is scored on its own and is tied to the second country named in part B. A single sentence built on “unlike Mexico” usually ends up explaining Mexico again and leaves this point unclaimed, and moving to Russia or China here breaks the link back to part B, so the marker cannot award it even when the politics is right.

Why AskSia

Four things the big players do not do.

Web apps hand you a question dump. Human tutors cost thousands. Official prep has no coaching. AskSia is a different category.

An agent, not a chatbot

Sia diagnoses, sets a target, builds the plan to 14 May 2027, drills you and re-plans around your weakest units.

vs. type-a-question tools

Weighted by what units are worth

Study days are allocated by published exam weight, so a heavy unit gets the hours it deserves and a light one does not.

The AP Comparative Government and Politics exam is on Friday 14 May 2027, in Session 1. Session 1 exams start at 8am local time and Session 2 at 12pm local time for most schools, including all schools in the lower 48 states, Hawaii and Washington DC. Late testing runs 17 to 21 May 2027. Your AP coordinator confirms where and when you sit it.
The exam is 2 hr 30 min long. Section I is 55 multiple-choice questions, 60 minutes, 50% of the score. Section II is 4 free-response questions, 90 minutes, 50% of the score. It is a fully digital exam. Calculators are not permitted.
Units 1 and 2 are 40 to 60% of the multiple-choice section between them, and together they are close to half of College Board's own suggested class time. Unit 5 comes last in the syllabus and is worth more than Unit 3 or Unit 4, so the end of the course is not the light part of the paper.
AP exams are reported on a 1 to 5 scale. Your raw marks from both sections are combined using the published weightings, then converted to the final score. There is no penalty for a wrong or blank multiple-choice answer, so leaving one blank is never correct strategy. Scores are usually released in early July, and College Board publishes the exact 2027 score-access dates in spring 2027.
In practice, The comparative analysis question, which asks you to compare two of the six course countries rather than describe either one. Sia identifies which of these patterns is costing you marks and drills that specific pattern rather than the topic in general.
No, and no legitimate tool has them. Official AP questions are the copyrighted property of College Board. Every AskSia question is written by AskSia to the published Course and Exam Description format, then selected for the individual student based on the skills they are losing marks on.
