The extension requests only the minimum permissions needed to do its job: (1) read access to pages on the specific LMS domains you choose to sync (Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace, Moodle, Everytime), (2) the ability to display the Sync to AskSia button overlay, and (3) the ability to upload captured files to your own AskSia account. It does not request access to unrelated websites, banking sites, email, or any site outside your LMS. You can review every permission in the Chrome Web Store listing before installing.

No. AskSia never sees, stores, or transmits your LMS username or password. The extension uses your existing authenticated browser session — the same session you already logged into manually — to read course materials. If you log out of your LMS, the extension can no longer sync until you log back in yourself. Your credentials never leave your browser.

No, absolutely not. The extension is read-only and physically cannot write to your LMS. It cannot submit assignments, take quizzes, post in discussions, message professors, change grades, or modify anything. This is a hard architectural boundary — we do not request write permissions, so write actions are not possible even in the event of a bug.

No. Content synced through the extension is never used to train AI models. Your files are processed only for your own queries, kept private to your account, and remain yours. We do not share, sell, or use your course materials for any purpose other than providing you with the AskSia service.

The AskSia extension works on Canvas (Instructure), Blackboard (Ultra and Original experience), Brightspace (D2L), Moodle, and Everytime (에브리타임, Korea). We also support several region-specific LMSs. If your university uses one of these, the extension works automatically with no configuration. If your school uses a different LMS, please let us know — we expand coverage continuously based on student requests.

The extension syncs every downloadable resource your LMS exposes: PDFs (including scanned lecture handouts), Word documents, PowerPoint slide decks, Excel spreadsheets, images, text files, Markdown, EPUB readings, Google Docs/Slides links, YouTube lecture links, and page content like syllabi and announcements. Everything preserves its original file name and format.

Yes. Open your AskSia library, select any course folder or individual file, and click Delete. Deletion is permanent and immediate. You can also uninstall the extension from Chrome with one click — that stops any further syncing but does not delete previously synced files (which you can then delete separately from your AskSia library).

Because the extension only reads pages you are already authorized to view, and makes no writes or identifiable calls back to the LMS, there is no extension-specific signal visible to your professor or your university's LMS administrators. Your LMS login patterns look identical to normal usage. That said, we encourage students to use AskSia as a study aid — a more efficient way to review materials you already have access to — not as a substitute for genuinely engaging with course content.

Using the extension to organize and study materials you have legitimate access to is generally comparable to manually downloading the same files and using any study tool — which is standard student practice. AskSia itself is used by universities as an approved study resource. However, academic integrity rules vary by institution and course. As a rule of thumb: using AskSia to better understand material, build study guides, quiz yourself, and review lectures is straightforward studying. Using any AI tool to submit AI-generated answers on graded work would violate most academic honesty policies. You are always responsible for your own academic conduct — we encourage you to check your course syllabus or honor code for specifics.
