ACX2100 Chap.14 Exam Preparation: Blueprint, Timing and Mark Allocation
Exam Preparation: Blueprint, Timing and Mark Allocation
The final examination is an invigilated closed-book eExam worth 40% of the unit and marked out of 100. Part 1 contains ten multiple-choice questions worth two marks each. Approximately half are drawn jointly from Weeks 7 and 12, with the remainder from Weeks 3, 4 and 5; no per-week split is published.
Part 2 contains four constructed-response questions: Week 2 cash flows 10 marks, Week 6 deferred tax 25, Week 9 business combinations 25, and Weeks 10–11 consolidation 20. Every question and every part must be attempted. Duration is 2 hours 10 minutes inclusive of reading time and the paper runs to AEST.
Specifically permitted items are a calculator and five blank working sheets; notes and materials cannot be consulted and generative AI is not allowed. The examination period is 8–26 June 2026, with Swot Vac 1–5 June and results scheduled 13 July, but the unit source publishes no individual sitting date. Check my.monash.
The exam covers lecture content, tutorial exercises and Part A group exercises from Weeks 2–12. Week 8 supplies revision priorities rather than a separate content chapter.

AskSia-authored practice — build a personal timing plan from published marks
- RateThe 100 exam marks share 120 working minutes, giving a personal baseline of 1.2 working minutes per mark after the reserved buffer.
- Part 1MCQs receive 24 minutes and cash flows 12 minutes.
- LargeDeferred tax receives 30 minutes and business combinations 30 minutes.
- TotalConsolidation receives 24 minutes. The five allocations total 120 minutes.
- StatusThese are the student's planning stop times, not university-published section limits. The live paper instructions control.

Exam Preparation: Blueprint, Timing and Mark Allocation FAQ
What are the four constructed-response topics?
Week 2 cash flows 10 marks, Week 6 deferred tax 25, Week 9 business combinations 25, and Weeks 10–11 consolidation 20.
How are the MCQs allocated?
Approximately half are drawn jointly from Weeks 7 and 12, with the remainder from Weeks 3, 4 and 5. No individual week count is published.
Is reading time extra?
No. The 2 hours 10 minutes includes reading time.
When is the final exam?
Only the 8–26 June 2026 exam period is published in the available unit materials. Check the personal timetable on my.monash.
Is the final examination a hurdle?
The unit's Week 13 exam information page states it has no hurdle requirement. Confirm current conditions on Moodle; this does not establish hurdle status for other components.
How should I use the published mark allocation when practising?
Use the marks to decide how much rehearsal time each published area receives, then build a personal stop-time plan and label it as your own. Do not infer unpublished sub-marks. In every timed attempt, record where a proof failed and use that evidence to choose the next drill.
Exam move
Start with the published map rather than comfort topics. Drill Week 7 and 12 definitions jointly for MCQs and keep Weeks 3, 4 and 5 direction cards. For each constructed response, memorise a first-page structure and a final proof. Cash flows end in closing cash. Deferred tax ends in gross closing balances, movements and a balanced journal. Business combinations prove consideration, FVINA, residual and journal.
Consolidation separates acquisition, prior and current effects and restores the group boundary. Complete one 130-minute closed-book simulation with a calculator and five blank sheets. Use Moodle for current instructions and my.monash for the personal sitting. Mark the simulation by method checkpoints rather than by whether the final number looks plausible.
Record time spent, the first point of uncertainty and every failed proof. On the next attempt, begin with that weakest setup but still preserve the published allocation. Build a one-page error log under five headings: classification, direction, omitted account, arithmetic and requirement-reading. Convert each error into a short contrast question and revisit it after two days.
In the final week, practise the opening two minutes of every constructed-response family: draw the statement skeleton, tax worksheet, acquisition analysis or consolidation timeline before touching the numbers. This reduces search time without assuming any unpublished sub-mark allocation.
