How Political Economy Reads Digital Life

Six opening questions connect digital formation, historical forces, capitalism, modernity and experience. The recurring DIGITALITY map relates computing, technology, political economy, socialisation and personal and social life.

The stack makes material and institutional layers visible beneath the interface.

Centralised, decentralised, distributed and fragmented describe functions at specified layers, not whole-system moral verdicts. Agency remains constrained and capable.

The first cluster asks whether we understand how digitality shapes us, which forces develop and embed it, and which historical path opens in its wake. The second asks what digital life is, which social, political and economic forces produced it, how closely capitalism and modernity are tied to computing, and how digitally constituted experience informs mentalities and desires. Together they reject a device-only account.

Its recurrence marks the conceptual spine of the subject. The map does not say that one domain mechanically causes all others. It asks how development, institution and experience become mutually connected while retaining different scales.

Downstream use also feeds back through demand, data and regulation. Avoid a total explanation A relational map does not license the claim that computing explains every social transformation. It helps locate a bounded mechanism and identify rival forces.
