Where do the assessment weights on these pages come from?
From the offering each guide names at the top of the page, checked against the subject's entry in the University of Melbourne Handbook. Topics and worked examples carry across offerings; weights and dates can change, so confirm yours on Canvas before you plan your revision.
What is a hurdle requirement at the University of Melbourne?
A hurdle is a component you must pass, or a condition you must meet, on its own to pass the subject, whatever your total mark. The University records a hurdle failure as NH, a fail grade capped at 49%. Many subjects set a minimum mark on the final exam or a minimum attendance at practicals as a hurdle. Guides flag every hurdle in the weight column so you see it before you plan.
What is SWOT Vac and when are exams?
SWOT Vac is the one-week study break between the last teaching week and the start of the exam period; nothing new is taught and it is the last stretch to revise. Each guide that covers a final exam says which components sit in the exam period and which are due during teaching weeks, so you can plan SWOT Vac around the weights that matter.
How is a WAM calculated at the University of Melbourne?
Your Weighted Average Mark is the average of your subject marks weighted by credit points: a 25 point subject counts double a 12.5 point subject. The percentage mark from a failed subject still counts, and the WAM is calculated to three decimal places as results are certified. An H1 needs 80% or more in a subject, which is why the guides put the heaviest weighted components first.
Are these official University of Melbourne materials?
No. AskSia is not affiliated with the University of Melbourne. Each guide is written independently by AskSia from the subject's published materials, and every assessment figure names the offering it came from so you can check it against the Handbook.
