21926 Chap.16 The Change Management Folio: Report and Poster
The Change Management Folio: Report and Poster
Two parts, one argument
Assessment 2 is an individual folio worth 50%: a report of up to 2,000 words to the senior leadership of a real organisation, worth 40%, and a one-page A4 advocacy poster, worth 10%. The report gives the strategic and theoretical case for a change; the poster carries its central message to one named audience.
It is due on Monday 2 November at 11:59pm.
From critique to your own approach
The core of the report is a two-step move. First you critically evaluate one existing model taught in the subject, examining its assumptions, strengths, limitations and suitability.
Then you propose your own change management approach that builds on that model’s strengths or answers its weaknesses, and you evaluate that approach for feasibility, risks, stakeholders, ethics, resources and sustainability.
You cannot reuse your Assessment 1 model or organisation.
What the rubric weights
The model critique and your own approach together carry 35 of the rubric’s 100 points, the evaluation of your approach another 10, and the poster’s message and presentation 20. The Week 12 summary lecture lists the ingredients for building an approach, from diagnosis and readiness to enabling practices and institutionalisation.
Every section should do one job, which keeps the report within its word limit.

Sort draft paragraphs into the folio report sections
- 1Sentence (a) states the consequence of maintaining the status quo, so it belongs in section 2, the analysis of the organisational issue.
- 1Sentence (b) examines an assumption of an existing model and its fit with the organisation, so it belongs in section 4, the critical evaluation of a change model.
- 1Sentence (c) describes implementation stages and a way of handling resistance, so it belongs in section 5, your proposed change management approach.
- 1Sentence (d) weighs a risk of your own approach, so it belongs in section 6, the evaluation of the proposed change.
Key terms
- Advocacy Poster
- The folio’s communication campaign tool: a single A4 page that carries one central change message and a call to action to a named audience.
- Executive Summary
- A page at the start of the report that condenses the issue, the proposed change, the model, the key recommendations and the expected outcomes.
- Status Quo
- The organisation’s present way of operating, whose continuation the report must cost out to show why change is needed.
- Transitional Structure
- A temporary arrangement, such as a cross-team group, set up to carry an organisation through a change until new routines settle.
- Special Consideration
- The UTS process for students who cannot submit within the extension window; an approved case brings a W grade until the work is marked.
The Change Management Folio: Report and Poster FAQ
Can I use the same model or organisation as in Assessment 1?
No. The Assessment 2 guide requires a model you did not use in Assessment 1 and a new organisation suited to the folio. The organisation must be real, and the issue must call for meaningful organisational change rather than simply describing a problem. Check the current list of models on Canvas, because two versions of the menu differ.
Do I have to invent a brand-new change model?
Not from scratch. You choose one existing model taught in the subject, evaluate it critically, and then propose your own approach that builds on its strengths, answers its limitations or extends its reach for your context. You may name the approach if you like, but its justification must come from your critique and from evidence.
How long should the folio report be?
The guide gives two versions. One table sets a maximum of 2,000 words plus a 10% margin, with no minimum, excluding references and cover page; the report specifications give 1,500 to 2,000 words (±10%), also excluding contents, poster and appendices. The subject outline sets 1,500 and the teaching team accepts up to 2,000, so confirm against the Subject Outline.
Can I use GenAI for the poster?
Yes. The guide allows GenAI for brainstorming, wording, image generation, layout and visual design of the communication campaign tool, provided its use follows UTS academic integrity policy and is cited in the report’s references, as the guide asks. You remain fully responsible for originality, the accuracy of all content and the critical analysis in the report.
What happens if I cannot submit on 2 November?
The 72-hour auto-extension applies on application. Beyond that window you can apply for UTS special consideration; if it is approved you submit at a time UTS designates and receive a W grade until the work is marked and the final grade is prepared, which may delay your academic progress.
Assessment move
Work backwards from the rubric. Write the limitations of your chosen model as a numbered list, then for each one draft a single design feature of your own approach and the evidence that it will work in your organisation; this becomes sections 4 and 5. Next, test the approach against the section 6 checklist of feasibility, risks, stakeholders, ethics, resources, sustainability and outcomes.
Only then draft the executive summary and introduction. Design the poster last, for one named audience, and check that its call to action matches one of your two or three recommendations. Leave a full day before 2 November for the word count, references and formatting. Keep a copy of every version you submit.
