Node and mesh analysis solve the same circuit with very different amounts of work, and the choice takes ten seconds. The tutor asks for both counts first.

Zeroing sources incorrectly for Thevenin resistance

Independent voltage sources become short circuits and current sources become open circuits, and swapping them is a standard error. The tutor asks what each source becomes.

Ignoring initial conditions in transients

A capacitor voltage and an inductor current cannot change instantaneously, and those two facts supply the initial conditions. The tutor asks what was true just before the switch.

To find the Thevenin resistance of a network containing only independent sources, what do you do with them?

Why choosing the method is most of the work

The same circuit can take five equations or two depending on whether you counted nodes or meshes first. Students who never make that choice deliberately spend twice as long and make twice as many sign errors. The tutor asks for both counts before anything is written.
