Connect Brightspace (D2L) to AskSia

LMS · Last updated May 2026

Brightspace (sometimes still called D2L) is one of the cleaner LMSes to work with on the backend, which is good news — the sync is fast and the content structure is well-organized once it lands in AskSia.

Connecting your account

  1. From the AskSia sidebar, open Settings → Integrations.
  2. Pick Connect Brightspace.
  3. Type the Brightspace URL your school uses. Common patterns: yourschool.brightspace.com, learn.yourschool.ca, or a custom domain like online.yourschool.edu.
  4. Sign in through your school's normal Brightspace login — usually SSO. AskSia is never in that loop.
  5. Approve the read-only scope and your courses appear.

What we pull in

  • Course list and enrollment status for the current term.
  • Content modules and topics, including embedded files.
  • The course outline / syllabus document.
  • Assessment items: assignment names, due dates, and quizzes (metadata only).

A few Brightspace habits worth flagging

Brightspace lets instructors organize content into units and topics, sometimes nested several levels deep. AskSia preserves that structure, so if your professor groups week-by-week, your AskSia view groups the same way. That's intentional — the structure your instructor designed is usually meaningful.

If your school uses Brightspace's Intelligent Agents or release conditions, content gated behind those rules only appears in AskSia once the rule unlocks. Same for content marked as draft.

Reconnecting

Brightspace tokens are long-lived but not forever. If you see a "reconnect" prompt, it's safe — your data stays. Click it, sign in once, you're back. We don't store your Brightspace password and never have.

Once your Brightspace courses are in, the next thing most students try is a one-page midterm cheat sheet from a unit they're struggling with. Walk through it in Using the Cheat Sheet Maker.
