Personal AI Literacy Tutor Online That Teaches You to Do It Yourself

Reading, writing, spelling and vocabulary at the level you are actually at. The reading level and the subject matter are set separately, so an adult working on foundations is not handed a passage about a puppy.

Quick answer

What is the AskSia AI literacy tutor?

The AskSia AI literacy tutor is a personal tutoring tool covering reading, writing, spelling and vocabulary at whatever level the learner is at. It sets the reading level and the subject matter independently, so an adult or older student working on foundations is given material about topics that interest them rather than passages written for young children. Spelling is taught through patterns rather than lists, vocabulary is built from words in context, and writing is worked at sentence level before paragraph level. Progress is private to the learner. It answers in eight languages. Students on the AskSia A+ plan are covered by the Grade Confidence Guarantee. AskSia is a study aid, not an answer key.

How a session runs

Four stages, the way a tutor actually works

A solver ends when the answer appears. Tutoring ends when you can do the next one alone.

1
Hint

A nudge, not a solution

It points at the broken step and hands the problem back for your next move.

2
Walkthrough

Line by line, with the picture

Ask for more and it works through the method line by line, not just the final result.

3
Checkpoint

It asks you one back

A short question makes sure the next step belongs to you before you move on.

4
Quiz

It comes back later

Weak topics return later, when retrieval is more likely to make the method stick.

You need the answer now

It is 11pm and the set is due

Use the solver for a complete worked solution when the deadline is the priority.

Use the problem solver
You need to be able to do it

The exam is in three weeks

The tutor is slower on purpose, because it leaves a method behind for the next problem.

Where the marks go

Three habits that cost marks every semester

Literacy support usually fails for reasons that have nothing to do with the teaching.

01

Material pitched at the wrong age

Content written for children is the most common reason an older learner stops. The reading level needs to move without the subject matter following it down.

02

Spelling taught as lists

A list is forgotten after the test. A pattern covers dozens of words and keeps working on words that were never on any list.

03

Reading aloud mistaken for comprehension

Fluent reading with no memory of the content means the effort is going into decoding. That is a different problem and needs a different exercise.

Practice and tracking

Quizzes built from your mistakes, not a question bank

Your points are not lost evenly, so your practice is not spread evenly. Try this one.

From your weak topicsWORD PARTS
Knowing that the prefix un means not, what is the most useful thing about learning it?
Why this answer. Why B. Word parts are the highest return item in vocabulary work because each one carries across a whole family of words, including words you have never seen. Learning words one at a time is slower by an order of magnitude and stops working on unfamiliar text.
Long-response questions are graded on the reasoning in each step, not only the final value.
Coverage

What this tutor covers

The strands literacy work covers, at any age.

DEC
Decoding

Vocabulary
Learning words from context rather than from lists
MORPH
Word parts
Prefixes, suffixes and roots that open up families
SPELL
Spelling patterns
Rules that cover many words at once
PUNCT
Punctuation
Sentence boundaries and what they do to meaning
SENT
Sentence writing
Complete sentences before longer structures
PARA
Paragraph writing
One idea, developed, with a reason
FORM
Everyday writing
Emails, forms and messages that get a result
STUDY
Reading to learn
Extracting what a text is telling you
CONF
Confidence
Working without an audience and at your own pace

If decoding is the main barrier, the phonics page is the more direct starting point. For comprehension in a reader who already decodes, the reading page goes deeper.

Tutoring, not a chat box

Four things a tutor does that a chat box does not

It knows your history, not just your question

Your next session starts with the steps that have actually been difficult, not a generic recap of the whole topic again.

It draws the diagram, not just the algebra

Diagrams are labelled and built beside every step of the working, because visual reasoning can earn marks in its own right.

It finds the first wrong line in your own working

Bring an attempt that went wrong. It finds the first step where the method changed course, then teaches that step.

It examines you the way your course does

Long-response questions need practice shaped like your own paper, not a multiple-choice bank.

Why this works

Why level and age are different settings

Most literacy tools set one dial, and lowering the reading level drags the subject matter down with it. That is why older learners stop. Here the two are separate, so a passage can be simple to read and still be about football, work, history or anything else an adult would choose to read about.

Practice is private. There is no class to read in front of and no shared progress, which removes the part of literacy work that most learners describe as the reason they avoided it, and it means the same paragraph can be worked five times without anyone noticing.

It tutors in English, German, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

Questions

Questions students actually ask

Is this for children or adults?

Both. The reading level and the subject matter are set separately, which is what makes the same tool usable by an adult learner and by a school student.

Can it help with spelling?

Yes, through patterns and word parts rather than lists, since patterns keep working on words that were never practised.

Will anyone see my progress?

It stays with the learner. There is no class view and nothing is shared unless you choose to share it.

Can it help with everyday writing?

Yes, including emails, forms and messages, which is often the most immediately useful part.

What if I can read but not remember what I read?

That is a comprehension issue rather than a decoding one, and it is worked with different exercises. The reading page goes deeper on it.

Is using an AI tutor allowed?

AskSia is built as a study aid, not an answer key. Check your own faculty's policy before using any tool on graded work.
