Phonics · Grade guarantee on the A+ plan

Personal AI Phonics Tutor Online That Teaches You to Do It Yourself

Sounds are introduced in order and practice only uses the sounds already covered, which is what makes reading feel possible rather than random. Guessing from the picture is treated as the habit to remove, not as a strategy.

Quick answer

What is the AskSia AI phonics tutor?

The AskSia AI phonics tutor is a tutoring tool that teaches letter and sound correspondences in a systematic order and practises them with words made only from the sounds already taught. It works blending and segmenting in both directions, handles the small number of words that cannot be decoded separately from the ones that can, and discourages guessing from a picture or a first letter, since that strategy looks like reading in the early stages and becomes difficult to unlearn later. It is used by parents, tutors and teachers as well as by learners directly. It answers in eight languages. Students on the AskSia A+ plan are covered by the Grade Confidence Guarantee. AskSia is a study aid, not an answer key.

How a session runs

Four stages, the way a tutor actually works

A solver ends when the answer appears. Tutoring ends when you can do the next one alone.

1
Hint

A nudge, not a solution

It points at the broken step and hands the problem back for your next move.

2
Walkthrough

Line by line, with the picture

Ask for more and it works through the method line by line, not just the final result.

3
Checkpoint

It asks you one back

A short question makes sure the next step belongs to you before you move on.

4
Quiz

It comes back later

Weak topics return later, when retrieval is more likely to make the method stick.

You need the answer now

It is 11pm and the set is due

Use the solver for a complete worked solution when the deadline is the priority.

Use the problem solver
You need to be able to do it

The exam is in three weeks

The tutor is slower on purpose, because it leaves a method behind for the next problem.

Where the marks go

Three habits that cost marks every semester

Early reading goes wrong in three ways that are easy to miss because they look like progress.

01

Guessing from the picture or the first letter

It produces correct words often enough to look like reading, and it fails completely once the books stop having pictures.

02

Practice using untaught sounds

A word containing a sound that has not been covered turns decoding into guessing. Practice text has to stay inside what has been taught.

03

Blends taught as digraphs

Two letters making two sounds pushed together is different from two letters making one sound, and confusing them creates spelling errors that persist.

Practice and tracking

Quizzes built from your mistakes, not a question bank

Your points are not lost evenly, so your practice is not spread evenly. Try this one.

From your weak topicsDIGRAPHS AND BLENDS
Which pair of letters is a digraph rather than a blend?
Why this answer. Why B. A digraph is two letters making a single new sound, so sh is one sound that neither letter makes alone. The others are blends, where both sounds are still audible and simply run together, and treating a blend as a single unit causes spelling errors later.
Long-response questions are graded on the reasoning in each step, not only the final value.
Coverage

What this tutor covers

The order phonics work follows, and the two skills it is really building.

SOUND
Single letter sounds
The most common sound for each letter first
BLEND
Blending
Pushing sounds together into a whole word
SEG
Segmenting
Breaking a spoken word into sounds for spelling
CVC
Simple words
Three sound words using taught letters only
DIG
Consonant digraphs
Two letters, one sound, kept distinct from blends
VOW
Vowel digraphs
The long vowel spellings and their patterns
BLND
Consonant clusters
Two sounds together, not a new sound
SPLIT
Split vowel spellings
The pattern that changes the vowel
ALT
Alternative spellings
One sound with several spellings
TRICK
Tricky words
The few that must be learned by sight, and why
MULT
Longer words
Breaking words into syllables to decode them
FLU
Reading practice
Decodable text using only what has been taught

Once decoding is secure, comprehension becomes the next thing to work on, and literacy support covers spelling and writing alongside.

Tutoring, not a chat box

Four things a tutor does that a chat box does not

It knows your history, not just your question

Your next session starts with the steps that have actually been difficult, not a generic recap of the whole topic again.

It draws the diagram, not just the algebra

Diagrams are labelled and built beside every step of the working, because visual reasoning can earn marks in its own right.

It finds the first wrong line in your own working

Bring an attempt that went wrong. It finds the first step where the method changed course, then teaches that step.

It examines you the way your course does

Long-response questions need practice shaped like your own paper, not a multiple-choice bank.

Why this works

Why the order matters more than the pace

Phonics works when practice only contains sounds that have already been taught, because that is what turns reading from guessing into decoding. Skipping ahead produces words the learner cannot possibly work out, and the strategy they invent to cope with those words is the one that has to be removed later.

Blending and segmenting are practised in both directions, since reading a word and spelling it are the same knowledge used in opposite order. Working only in the reading direction produces a learner who reads adequately and cannot spell.

It tutors in English, German, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

Questions

Questions students actually ask

Can it hear my child read?

It works from what you type or paste rather than from audio, so it suits a parent or tutor working alongside the learner. It will tell you which error a mistake indicates.

Does it follow a particular phonics programme?

It follows a systematic order and can be aligned to the sequence your school uses if you tell it which sounds have been taught.

What are tricky words?

The small number of common words that cannot be decoded with the sounds taught so far. They are handled separately rather than mixed into decodable practice.

Is this suitable for an older learner?

Yes, and the practice material can be kept age appropriate while the sounds themselves start from the beginning.

What comes after phonics?

Fluency and comprehension. Once decoding stops taking effort, attention becomes available for meaning, and that is a different kind of practice.

Is using an AI tutor allowed?
