Copyright and DMCA takedowns

AskSia respects intellectual-property rights and complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) (17 U.S.C. § 512). Some material on AskSia — for example, the community Library — is uploaded by students, so if you believe content on AskSia infringes a copyright you own or represent, you can ask us to remove it, and we will respond promptly.

Report copyright infringement (file a DMCA takedown notice)

Send a written notice to our designated copyright agent at copyright@asksia.ai. To be valid under the DMCA, your notice must include all of the following:

1. Your physical or electronic signature.
2. Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed (or a representative list, if several works are covered by one notice).
3. Identification of the material you claim is infringing, with enough detail for us to locate it — ideally the exact URL(s).
4. Your contact information: full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
6. A statement that the information in your notice is accurate, and — under penalty of perjury — that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act on the owner's behalf.

We can only act on notices that include every element above. Please also note that under § 512(f), anyone who knowingly materially misrepresents that material is infringing may be liable for damages.

What happens after a valid notice

When we receive a valid notice, we will expeditiously remove or disable access to the material and make a reasonable effort to notify the user who posted it. We may also remove material we believe in good faith may be infringing.

Filing a counter-notification

If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you may send a counter-notification to copyright@asksia.ai that includes:

1. Your physical or electronic signature.
2. Identification of the material that was removed and the location where it appeared before it was removed.
3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
4. Your name, mailing address, and telephone number; a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the district where you live (or, if you are outside the United States, any judicial district in which AskSia may be found); and that you will accept service of process from the person who filed the original notice or their agent.

If we receive a valid counter-notification, we may restore the removed material in 10–14 business days, unless the original complainant first notifies us that they have filed a court action to keep the material down.

Repeat infringers

AskSia will, in appropriate circumstances and at its discretion, disable or terminate the accounts of users who are repeat infringers.
