Why was I charged? Auto-renewal, explained

Billing · Updated June 2026

If a charge from AskSia caught you off guard, take a breath — this is almost always a routine auto-renewal, and it's easy to understand and easy to stop. This article explains why paid plans renew on their own, how a free trial converts to paid, where to find your renewal date and price, how to turn off future charges (it's one click), and what to do if a charge looks wrong. You can cancel anytime and delete your account anytime, so you're always in control.

Paid plans auto-renew so your access never lapses

The paid AskSia plans — Plus, Super, and A+renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual, depending on what you chose). That's by design: it means your studying never stops mid-semester because a subscription quietly lapsed. When a period ends, the next one begins and you're charged for it — unless you've cancelled first.

A free trial converts to paid when it ends

If you started on a free trial, it converts to a paid plan automatically when the trial period ends — that first charge is the trial rolling over into a paid subscription. If you don't want to be charged, cancel before the trial ends and you won't be billed.

Where to find your renewal date and price

You can always see exactly when your next charge lands and how much it will be. Look in whichever place you subscribed:

  • If you subscribed on the web: open your account billing settings in AskSia — your plan, renewal date, and price are listed there.
  • If you subscribed on iPhone or iPad (via Apple): open the Settings app, tap your name → Subscriptions → AskSia. Apple shows your renewal date and price.
  • If you subscribed on Android (via Google Play): open the Play Store → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → AskSia. Google shows your renewal date and price there.

How to stop future charges

To make sure you aren't charged again, cancel before your renewal date. Cancelling stops the next charge but doesn't cut you off — you keep full access through the end of the period you've already paid for, and then you drop to the free plan. The actual cancel is one click, with no retention survey or “are you sure” wall:

  • If you subscribed on the web: click your profile avatar (bottom-left of the sidebar) → Manage planManage my plan → the billing portal opens → Cancel subscription. You can also update your payment method in that same billing portal.
  • If you subscribed via Apple or Google: you cancel in your device's subscription settings (Apple and Google handle that billing) — it can't be cancelled on our website.

For the step-by-step in every channel, see How to cancel your subscription.

Deleting the app does NOT stop billing

This one surprises a lot of people, so it's worth saying plainly: removing the AskSia app from your phone does not cancel your subscription. The billing is held by whoever you paid — AskSia on the web, or Apple or Google — not by the app itself. To actually stop charges, you have to cancel the subscription using the steps above. Deleting the app on its own will leave the renewals running.

If a charge looks wrong

If you see a charge you don't recognize, or you were charged after cancelling, we want to make it right. Email contact@asksia.ai with your account email and roughly when the charge happened, and we'll look into it — we reply within one business day. One thing to know: if you were billed through the App Store or Google Play, that charge is handled by Apple or Google, so those are sorted out through them.

Want this charge refunded, not just stopped?

Cancelling stops future charges; getting money back on the charge that already landed is a separate question — and you may qualify. The two most common paths: if you were billed but haven't actually used AskSia, you can request a 50% refund; and on an annual plan, the unused portion can be returned to your account as credit. To see which path fits you and exactly what to send, check How to request a refund.

You're always in control

To recap: you can cancel anytime in one click, and any access you've already paid for stays yours until the period ends. You can also delete your account and your data anytime. There's no lock-in — auto-renewal is just there so your studying doesn't get interrupted.
