IS5542 Chap.5 Prompt and Context Engineering for Business
Prompt and Context Engineering for Business
Why prompting comes first in the workshop
The ideation workshop spends its first fifteen minutes on prompts because every later activity, finding opportunities and drafting problem statements with a model's help, depends on briefing the model well.
The workshop's own summary is that context is key, and that a well-crafted prompt gives excellent and useful output that is still never exactly the same twice.
A business prompt has layers
The list for business prompts runs: use a persona, define the audience, add constraints such as timeline, cost and market, state the task, optionally encourage wild ideas, optionally give examples, and format the output.
Each layer replaces a guess the model would otherwise make with a decision you have made.
Formulas for images and video
Image prompts combine the subject, what it is doing or where, the environment, the style and lighting, and composition details such as camera angle.
Video prompts keep the subject, action, scene and style but add camera movement described in cinematic terms, because motion is part of the request.
One prompt can also return a storyboard of several images.
Letting the model improve the prompt
The final technique is to hand the model a weak prompt and ask it to improve it; the rewrites come back in different directions, and choosing among them is a business decision.
Practising the method
The workshop exercise can be repeated with any product: write the one-line prompt first, then add each layer in turn and note what changed in the output.
The layer that changes the result most is usually the constraint.

- 2Add constraints and the task.
- 2Add a format and explain the gain.
Key terms
- Persona
- The role the model is asked to take, which sets its voice and the expertise it draws on.
- Prompt Constraint
- A business limit written into a prompt, such as budget, timeline, market or a claim that must not be made.
- Output Format
- The structure requested for an answer, such as numbered ideas with names, bullets or structured data.
- Camera Movement
- The part of a video prompt that describes how the shot moves, such as a slow push-in or a tracking shot.
- Storyboard Prompt
- A single request that returns a sequence of images telling a story, often combined with video and voice-over.
Prompt and Context Engineering for Business FAQ
Why does the same prompt give different results each time?
Generation samples from probabilities rather than retrieving a stored answer, so each run can choose different words or images. A precise prompt narrows the range of likely outputs but does not remove variation, which is why teams generate several options and review them rather than trusting a single run.
What is the most common gap in business prompts?
Missing constraints. A request without a budget, market, deadline or compliance limit invites the model to propose ideas the business cannot use. Adding one or two real constraints usually improves usefulness more than rewording the task itself.
Should I ask the model to improve my prompt?
It is a useful technique, particularly early in a project. Asking for improved versions produces alternative framings, such as a technical, a visual and a problem-solving direction, which exposes choices you had not made explicit. You still decide which direction fits the business.
How is a video prompt different from an image prompt?
It describes motion. Both name the subject, the scene and the style and lighting, but a video prompt also states the action that drives the story and how the camera moves, such as a slow push-in or a tracking shot, and describes the subject closely enough to stay consistent between frames.
Exam move
Take three prompts you have actually used and rewrite each with all seven layers, marking which layer made the biggest difference. Then write one image prompt and one video prompt for the same product so that the extra camera-movement slot becomes second nature.
