PYB300 Chap.9 Teamwork Skills and the Professional Portfolio
Teamwork Skills and the Professional Portfolio
The Professional Portfolio is worth 20% and is earned in the room: five assessable tutorials, each producing a team artefact that every member submits individually for 4%. This chapter sets out the attendance and identification rules, the deferred task route, and the criteria sheet band by band.
It then covers the artefacts themselves, from the group contract to meeting minutes, the four criteria of the peer evaluation, and the conversations that keep a team functioning.

Rewrite a topic agenda as action-oriented questions
- 1Add the meeting details the template requires: date, time, location or mode, attendees and apologies.
- 1Open with last meeting's business, led by a named member, with a rough time.
- 1Turn each new business topic into a question with a lead and a time, such as: what will our outcome headline question be, and which survey will measure it? (Sam, 15 mins).
- 1Close with an actions item so the minutes can record who will do what by when, and keep the whole agenda to one page.
Key terms
- Professional artefact
- A team document produced and demonstrated in an assessable tutorial, such as a group contract or meeting minutes, submitted by each member for the portfolio.
- Group contract

- Project plan
- The Week 6 artefact breaking the prospectus into tasks and subtasks with responsible members and start and completion dates.
- Meeting minutes
- A concise, objective summary circulated after a meeting, mirroring the agenda headings and ending with actions, owners and due dates.
- Progress report
- The Week 8 artefact summarising progress, challenges and strategies, quality assurance practices and next steps.
- Deferred task
- A live, one-hour group session for students approved through the deferred exam process to make up missed portfolio tutorials.
- Peer Evaluation
- Assessment 2B, a teamwork score worth 5% calculated as the mean of team members' ratings on four set criteria.
Teamwork Skills and the Professional Portfolio FAQ
What earns the full 4% in a tutorial?
The criteria sheet's top band requires consistent collaboration and efforts to engage others, clear integration of relevant behavioural science concepts such as design thinking or cultural safety, a clear justification of how that knowledge contributed to the team's work, and an artefact that aligns with your participation. Part marks are rarely awarded and only after consultation with the unit coordinator.
Can I upload an artefact I completed at home?
No. Marks are only given for artefacts and skills demonstrated in the relevant tutorial, and work completed outside class does not count. You must attend the whole session, since attendance is confirmed towards the end, and bring photo identification. Online students sign in with their QUT email and keep their camera and microphone on.
Will a high Turnitin similarity score count against our artefacts?
The portfolio FAQ says high similarity is expected because team members submit the same artefacts, and no marks are deducted for that. The teaching team still checks for plagiarism outside that situation, including copying across tutorial groups or from previous years of the unit.
What if a team member stops responding?
Tutorial 2 asks you to remember they may be unwell or facing life events, then contact them politely with positive intent through the team's usual channel and their QUT email, keeping a screenshot in the Canvas team space. Allow 24 to 48 hours. If there is still no reply, or the pattern continues, email the unit's teaching team.
Exam move
Treat each assessable tutorial as a short live assessment: arrive on time, contribute visibly to the artefact, and before your tutor checks in, rehearse one sentence on what the team produced and one on the behavioural science concept you applied. Upload the artefact in class and confirm on Canvas that the mark has been recorded.
Keep your own notes on challenges the team met and how you responded, because the compulsory teamwork criterion in the examination needs exactly that kind of specific, first-person situation.
