How assessment works at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Where do the weights on these PolyU guides come from?

From the subject outline for the semester the guide names, the document departments issue through Blackboard or the subject page. Each guide reproduces that assessment table, marks the examination component, and cites the outline file it was read from.

What is an A+ worth at PolyU?

A grade point of 4.3. The scale runs A+ 4.3, A 4.0, A minus 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B minus 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C minus 1.7, D+ 1.3, D 1.0 and F 0, and since 2020/21 the GPA is not capped, so the maximum is 4.30. Grades are awarded on a criterion referenced basis under the Handbook on Academic Regulations.

When is the Semester One examination period in 2026/27?

Teaching ends on Saturday 28 November 2026, revision days run from Monday 30 November to Wednesday 2 December, and the examination period runs from Thursday 3 December to Friday 18 December. Semester Two examinations run from 22 April to 8 May 2027. Evening examinations are suspended on public holiday eves such as the Winter Solstice and Christmas Eve.

Do PolyU subjects have hurdle requirements?

Some do, set subject by subject in the outline rather than by a university wide rule: an outline may require a pass in the examination component or a minimum attendance to pass the subject. Guides state a hurdle only where the outline prints one, and say so when it does not.

Is AskSia connected to PolyU?

No. AskSia is not affiliated with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Each guide is an independent study aid written from the subject outline and materials it cites, and every figure names the semester it was read from.

Past exam papers at PolyU

The Pao Yue-kong Library keeps the PolyU Examination Paper Database, with past papers from 1995/96 onwards as submitted by departments, searchable by subject code and title; for copyright reasons it is open only to PolyU staff and students for private study. AskSia guides do not copy those papers. Each guide rebuilds the assessment from the subject outline, names the semester it belongs to and sets the examination period beside it, so a past paper can be checked against the current format before you rely on it.
