Structural Analysis Solver

Structural analysis: trusses, frames, beams.

Type or photograph the structure. AskSia analyzes trusses (method of joints, method of sections), frames (combined axial, shear, moment), and beams (reactions, internal forces, deflections), with full step-by-step work.

Works with word problems, equations, code, and science prompts.

Quick Answer

What kinds of structures can AskSia analyze?

The structural analysis solver handles trusses (statically determinate and some indeterminate), frames, and beams. For trusses, AskSia uses the method of joints (sum forces at each joint to find member forces) or the method of sections (cut the truss, apply equilibrium to one side). For frames, AskSia identifies the support reactions and computes internal forces (axial, shear, moment) along each member. For beams, AskSia computes reactions, draws shear and moment diagrams, and finds deflections using elastic theory.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

How does the method of joints work?
Apply equilibrium (sum forces in x equals 0, sum forces in y equals 0) at each joint where exactly two unknown member forces meet. Solve those equations to find the two forces, then move to the next joint. AskSia starts at a joint with two or fewer unknowns (typically at a support) and proceeds joint by joint.
What is the difference between method of joints and method of sections?
Method of joints analyzes one joint at a time using joint equilibrium; it gives you every member force but can be tedious. Method of sections analyzes a chunk of the truss by cutting through it; it gives you specific member forces directly without analyzing intermediate joints, useful when you only need one or two specific forces.
How is a truss statically indeterminate?
When the number of unknown member forces and reactions exceeds the number of independent equilibrium equations available. For a 2D truss, the count of equations is 2 times the number of joints. If unknowns exceed this, the truss is indeterminate, and you need compatibility equations (member deformations and joint displacements) to solve. AskSia handles low-degree indeterminacy.
Can AskSia draw shear and moment diagrams for frames?
Yes. For each frame member, AskSia computes the internal axial force, shear, and bending moment as functions of position along the member, then describes the diagrams. The maximum values and their locations are reported for design purposes. Frame analysis combines truss-like axial forces with beam-like bending.
How accurate is AskSia?
AskSia hits 98% accuracy on standard high school and college coursework, measurably higher than ChatGPT, Photomath, and Symbolab on the same problem sets. Accuracy comes from subject-specialized models, a symbolic verification pass that catches arithmetic errors, and a self-check step that re-derives the answer before showing it to you.
Can I get practice problems and flashcards?
Yes. After any solve, ask Sia to generate similar practice problems at SAT, ACT, AP, IB, or college difficulty, or build a flashcard set on the underlying concept in one tap. Useful for exam prep and spaced repetition before a quiz, midterm, or final.
How much does AskSia cost?
AskSia has a free plan that includes daily solves across all subjects. AskSia Pro and Super include unlimited solves, advanced subjects, the full AI tutor companion, exports, and priority response speed. See pricing for details.
