Quick Answer

What is the AskSia algebra equation solver?

The AskSia algebra equation solver is an AI tool that handles every kind of algebra equation. AskSia auto-detects the type (linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, radical, log, exponential) and picks the cleanest solution method: isolate-and-divide for linear, factoring or the quadratic formula for quadratic, rational root theorem for higher polynomial, multiply-by-LCD for rational, raise-to-the-power-for-radical, combine-then-rewrite for log, and take-the-log-of-both-sides for exponential. Each move is named, and the answer is checked by substitution.

Why AskSia Solver

Every algebra equation type, the right tool.

Linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, radical, log, exponential: each type has a canonical method. AskSia identifies the type and applies the right tool.

Type auto-detection

AskSia identifies the equation type from its structure: linear means the variable is to the first power only, quadratic has x² as the highest power, rational has x in a denominator, radical has x under a root, log has x inside log, exponential has x in an exponent.

Type detected

Method matched to type

Linear: isolate and divide. Quadratic: factor, formula, or complete the square. Polynomial: rational root theorem and synthetic division. Rational: multiply by LCD. Radical: raise to the power. Log: combine and rewrite. Exponential: take log of both sides.

Right method

Each move named

Every line is paired with the property, theorem, or operation: distributive property, additive inverse, multiplicative inverse, factor out GCF, apply log rules. The naming turns each solve into a teachable example.

Properties named

Extraneous solutions caught

Radical, rational, and log equations can produce extraneous solutions (candidates that don't satisfy the original equation). AskSia substitutes every candidate back and excludes the extraneous ones with an explanation.

Extraneous handled

Substitution check

After every solve, AskSia substitutes the final answer back into the original equation and confirms both sides match. The check is the final line of every solve, useful before submitting homework.

📐

Linear equations

One-variable and multi-step linear equations from Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. AskSia walks through the canonical order: distribute, combine, isolate.

Linear
⚛️

Quadratic equations

Factoring when roots are rational, the quadratic formula when not, completing the square for vertex form. AskSia picks based on the discriminant.

Quadratic
🧪

Polynomial equations

Degree-3 and higher polynomials. AskSia uses the rational root theorem and synthetic division to find all roots, including complex.

Polynomial
🧬

Rational equations

Equations with x in a denominator. AskSia multiplies through by the LCD, solves the resulting polynomial, and checks for extraneous solutions.

Rational
💻

Radical and log equations

Equations with x under a radical (square or higher) or inside a logarithm. AskSia isolates the radical or log, raises to the power or rewrites in exponential form, and checks for extraneous solutions.

Radical, log
🎯

Exponential equations

Equations with x in an exponent. AskSia takes the log of both sides (natural log usually), brings the exponent down, and solves the resulting linear equation.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

How does AskSia decide which method to use for an algebra equation?
AskSia detects the equation type from its structure first. Linear equations (highest power of the variable is 1) get isolate-and-divide. Quadratic equations (highest power is 2) get factoring (if rational roots), the quadratic formula (otherwise), or completing the square (for vertex form). Higher-degree polynomials get the rational root theorem combined with synthetic division. Rational equations (x in a denominator) get multiply-by-LCD. Radical equations get raise-to-the-power. Log equations get combine-and-rewrite-as-exponential. Exponential equations get take-log-of-both-sides. AskSia picks automatically but you can override.
What is an extraneous solution and how does AskSia catch it?
An extraneous solution is a candidate that satisfies the rearranged equation but not the original. They appear when you perform an operation that isn't reversible: squaring both sides (radical equations), multiplying by an expression that could be zero (rational equations), or taking logs in a way that allows non-positive arguments (log equations). AskSia substitutes every candidate solution back into the original equation. If a candidate makes the original equation undefined (like a negative argument to a log) or false, AskSia excludes it with an explanation, so you don't lose points on the final answer.
Can AskSia solve a logarithmic equation?
Yes. AskSia uses log properties (product, quotient, power rules) to combine multiple log terms into a single log, then rewrites the equation in exponential form to solve. For example, log(x) + log(x + 3) = 1 becomes log(x(x + 3)) = 1, which becomes x(x + 3) = 10 (assuming base 10), giving the quadratic x² + 3x minus 10 = 0. AskSia then solves the quadratic and checks each candidate against the original log equation's domain (arguments must be positive), excluding any that produce non-positive arguments.
How does AskSia solve an exponential equation?
For exponential equations like 3^x = 81, AskSia first checks if both sides can be written with the same base (3^x = 3⁴ gives x = 4 directly). If not, AskSia takes the logarithm of both sides (usually natural log ln) and uses the power rule to bring the exponent down: ln(3^x) = ln(81) becomes x · ln(3) = ln(81), so x = ln(81)/ln(3). The final answer is given in exact form (with logs) and decimal form. For exponential equations involving e^x, natural log is used directly.
How accurate is AskSia?
AskSia is engineered for accuracy on standard high school and college coursework. Accuracy comes from subject-specialized models, a symbolic verification pass that catches arithmetic errors, and a self-check step that re-derives the answer before showing it to you.
Can I get practice problems and flashcards?
Yes. After any solve, ask Sia to generate similar practice problems at SAT, ACT, AP, IB, or college difficulty, or build a flashcard set on the underlying concept in one tap. Useful for exam prep and spaced repetition before a quiz, midterm, or final.
How much does AskSia cost?
AskSia has a free plan that includes daily solves across all subjects. AskSia Pro and Super include unlimited solves, advanced subjects, the full AI tutor companion, exports, and priority response speed. See pricing for details.
